When we moved to New Braunfels, we were excited for a slower pace, more outdoor activities, and local shops and eateries. But we had no idea how incredible those places would all be. We do our best to get the boys outside as much as possible, but we also have to eat. If you’ve taken small kids to a restaurant, you know how challenging it can be. Pro-tip, take them somewhere with decent food, where you can sit outside, and they can play while you have adult conversation and adult beverages. It’s good for the soul. If you’re looking for restaurants with playgrounds New Braunfels, I’m sharing my six favorites here. Don’t worry, they all serve booze too.
Restaurants with Playgrounds New Braunfels
Herberts New Braunfels
Herbert’s is “a Mexican joint with a patio and live music” and has been around since the 1970s. It’s located just inside loop 337 on highway 46, which is convenient for us. Herbert’s serves affordable Mexican food and has enormous portions. We generally get the fajitas and then add two kids’ meals for the boys and giant margaritas for the adults. The kid’s menu has both Mexican food and traditional American chicken strips and sliders. Kids get a free drink between 12 and 7 pm. Herbert’s has the biggest playground of any on the list. There are always lots of kids there. The patio is large and situated right next to the playground.
Tin Top Burgers and Beer
We just visited Tin Top for the first time, and I feel like we’ve been missing out! Tin Top Burgers and Beer is near Schlitterbahn and shares the building with Rhea’s Ice Cream. You place your order at the front and then walk around back to the outdoor seating and playground. Our boys love the pirate ship play structure! They have a good selection of burgers and even vegan options, plus my favorite, the frozen hard cider. The kid’s menu has several choices, and everything is served in to-go containers, perfect for picky eaters. If you go, which you should, save room for ice cream. All the flavors at Rhea’s are good, but the Big Red ice cream is something you probably won’t find anywhere else.
The Hideaway New Braunfels
We stumbled upon The Hideaway while walking around town, killing time waiting to be called back for our table at another restaurant. It’s on Jahn street, just a short walk from Krause’s Cafe. Full disclosure, we haven’t yet been there. But it’s playground new, and the playground looks good. They have mini golf and cornhole for parents as well. Their site appears to be under construction, but hopefully, I can link it for you soon. I’ll check it out with the boys when the weather gets warmer and update this page for you.
Antler Cafe
Antler Cafe is known for its “good home cookin’.” Check out the menu; you’ll see creamed corn, fried okra, hamburger steak, and fried catfish, to name a few. My mom likes to go there for their frog legs. It’s different, but always busy. The playground is a little older but complete with swings and enough to keep our kids occupied while we eat. Antler Cafe has five kid’s meal options and tater tots, of course. Bottled beer and wine by the glass is an option for thirsty child caretakers.
The Branch Neighborhood Grill
The Branch Neighborhood Grill is one of our favorites. It’s off 46, west of New Braunfels, in The Shops at Faithville Park. It’s an American Style restaurant with everything from Po’ Boys to steaks. There are six kid’s meal options on the menu for $5 each, and you can add green beans, veggies, or fruit if your kid has already had their serving of mac and cheese for the day. They have bottled beer, beer on tap, and some yummy signature drinks for the adults. Here is the full menu so you can check it out.
Hat Creek Burger Company
Hat Creek Burger Company is technically in San Marcos, Texas. But, if you are making a Target run or making a stop at Buc-ee’s, it’s just on the other side of I-35. Hat Creek was first a food struck started in Austin and now has several stand-alone locations in the area. The owner has three kids, so he gets it. The small chain promises “fresh, never frozen beef served on freshly baked buns with fresh veggies.” The menu includes lots of burger and fries options, plus extra like dirt cups for kids. The beer is on tap, and wine and hard seltzer are available too. If you like burgers and have kids, make sure to visit when you’re in the area.
Wrapitude
Wrapitude’s website list’s the address in San Antonio, and I featured it in my kid-friendly restaurants in San Antonio roundup. But it’s just off 3009 and is super close to our house. I think it deserves mention here as well.
The playground is the least amazing of the ones on this list. But, kids don’t care about that; they want to play. With that said, I think their menu and beer selection is one of the better of the kid-friendly restaurants with playgrounds New Braunfels, Texas. I like Wrapitude because they serve more than just burgers and fries and have vegetarian-friendly options with wraps and salads. The kid’s menu has options, and there’s a bunch of different flavors of organic sodas too. Adults can add tap beer or cider to their drink order as well.
