The Hugh and Grace Body Oil holds a special place in my heart. It’s the reason I tried the brand in the first place. In my opinion, body oils are far superior to lotion (more on that below). I had been a loyal user of one brand for years, but after a change in formulation, I was shopping for a new one. A good friend told me about this new hormone-safe brand that made her legs look fantastic, and I had to try it. So, I’m sharing the Hugh and Grace body oil and why it is a multi-tasking, game-changer product.
What is Hugh and Grace?
If you haven’t heard of Hugh and Grace yet, I recommend checking it out. I’ve written about the products here and the advocate opportunity here. Hugh and Grace is a mission-driven, US-based company founded by Ben and Sara Jensen. They take clean beauty one step further by being hormone-safe and refusing to use endocrine disruptors in their products. Hugh and Grace products reduce your chemical body load by helping detox, repair, and protect your skin from the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Their products are not only safe, clean, and beautifully packaged but also high-performing. So, the brand is growing rapidly, with sales up 1200% in its first year.
1. Hugh and Grace Body Oil as Moisturizer
The Hugh and Grace Body oil is fantastic and keeps my skin feeling soft from shower to shower. It’s even saved my dry, near-cracking heels and pretty scratchy elbows. This Oil is free of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in formulation and packaging. Since your skin is the largest organ, a safe hormone moisturizer can reduce your exposure to many potential toxins.
I ditched lotion for body oil several years ago. Here are a few reasons why:
- Retain moisture better
- Preservative and synthetic free
- Bioactive, delivering nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants to the skin
- Repair and regulate damage on the skin’s surface
- Protect against free radicals and environmental stressors
Why It Works
- Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, and Ylang Ylang Oil have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and swelling and help with skin regeneration.
- Grapeseed Oil, Rosehip Oil, and Vitamin E provide superior antioxidant power to protect the skin, fighting free radicals and hormone disruptors to hydrate and brighten.
How to Use
Apply a generous amount of Hugh and Grace Body Oil all over your skin.*
*Body oils work best when applied to damp skin right out of the shower. When your skin is wet, moisturizing products are better able to permeate the skin barrier and leave you feeling extra hydrated. The Hugh and Grace Body Oil works by locking in the moisture on top of your skin by creating a protective barrier.
2. Hugh and Grace Body Oil as a Cleanser
If you take away anything from this blog, I hope it’s an interest in oil cleansing! Last year, my acne was horrible, and I feel like the Hugh and Grace products were my saving grace. I genuinely believe I had damaged my skin’s natural barrier using harsh products to treat my acne. But, after using the cleansing bar and serums, my skin was healing. One night, I decided to try oil cleansing with the Hugh and Grace Body Oil. The oil has excellent ingredients and non-comedogenic oils high in linoleic and oleic acids.
Oil cleansing is quick and easy and leaves my skin feeling so soft. I did notice a small breakout the first week, likely due to the oil bringing some things to the skin’s surface. But, since then, I’ve been completely acne-free. If you are struggling with acne, you might consider dialing back the number of products you use and using a gentler approach.
Why It Works
Oil cleansing works by bonding to the oils and dirt on your skin. When washed away, it removes what you don’t want without stripping your skin of the good bacteria and microbes that maintain the natural skin barrier and help fight infections.
Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, and Ylang Ylang Oil have unique anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and swelling and support skin regeneration. Grape Seed Oil, Rosehip Oil, and Vitamin E provide superior antioxidant power to protect the skin, fighting free radicals and hormone- disruptors to hydrate and brighten. Grape Seed Oil also helps tighten pores, heal acne, and protect from sun damage.
How to Use
- Massage ~3 pumps of Hugh and Grace Body Oil onto dry skin. There is no need to remove makeup first. In other words, this one product can replace 2 in your cleansing routine and is all you need.
- Rest a hot washcloth on your face, wait until it cools, and then wipe the oil away. If you have makeup on, you may want to repeat this step once or twice.
- Moisturize as needed, but don’t be shocked if you don’t need anything (other than sunscreen). I follow with the Restoring Face Serum in the morning and Renewing Night Serum at night. I wrote an entire blog about the Hugh and Grace night serum. You can check it out here.
3. Hugh and Grace Bath Oil & Bath Bombs
Soaking in a warm bath is relaxing and allows your pores to open up and take in all the nourishing ingredients of the Hugh and Grace Body Oil oil. And, when you get out of an oil-infused bath, you’ll notice your skin already feels hydrated. It’s excellent for dry skin or even kids who are less likely to put on moisturizer after the bath. Remember, Hugh and Grace is hormone safe for adults, kids, and pregnancy.
Why It Works
Complete with Grapeseed Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rosehip Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil, and a custom essential oil blend.
How to Use
Add 5-7 pumps of the Body Oil directly into your bathwater. Or, try a homemade bath bomb recipe and substitute the Hugh and Grace Body Oil for any oil and essential Oil mentioned in the recipe. Here is our current bath bomb recipe (make 6-8 bath bombs):
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1 tablespoon Hugh and Grace Body Oil, more or less as needed
- Mix the drip ingredients with a whisk and then add bath oil; mix completely
- I use this bath bomb press and then allow them to dry for 24 hrs before use. They are very fizzy!
4. Hugh and Grace Body Oil For Ezcema
As a pharmacist and generally good human, I recommend having your child’s eczema evaluated by a physician or trusted provider early and often. Depending on the severity, you may need help determining what triggers your child’s eczema and the best way to treat it. With that said, I have seen the benefits of the Hugh and Grace body oil in calming my son’s minor eczema and have heard from a handful of other moms that it’s been highly effective in helping their child’s eczema as well.
Why It Works
- Grapeseed Oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also calming and anti-itching.
- Rosehip Oil is high in antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids, which are effective topical treatments for eczema.
- Sea Buckthorn is a powerful anti-inflammatory and contains Oil contains 190 bioactive compounds.
How to Use
After consulting your doctor, pump 2-3 drops of Hugh and Grace Body Oil into your palms and gently massage it into any irritated patches of skin.
5. Hugh and Grace Body Oil for Sunburn Relief
This product outperforms aloe and isn’t sticky. Sunburns can be bothersome, especially for kids. The Hugh and Grace body oil is soothing and hydrating, and I swear the redness, dryness, and burning heal faster when you use it. It’s also hormone safe for adults and, kids, pregnant women.
Why It Works
- Sea Buckthorn is rich in vitamin E and beta-carotene that promote healing and skin regeneration, helping a sunburn heal faster.
- Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Ylang Ylang Oil have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and swelling and aids in skin regeneration.
How to Use
Apply as much as you need of the Hugh and Grace Body Oil to your skin, anywhere recently exposed to the sun.
6. Hugh and Grace Body Oil as a Bug Repellent
Most insect repellents contain toxic chemicals, and directions to wash your skin when you return indoors, avoid breathing it in and not spray it directly on your face. But bugs can also carry diseases and pollutants, so protecting yourself isn’t bad. Have you tried a body oil as a bug repellent?
Why it Works
Oils are a natural bug repellant. Oil’s slippery surface makes it difficult for bugs to latch onto your skin, reducing the number of bug bites you’ll have.
How to Use
Before you go outside, apply a generous amount of Hugh and Grace Body Oil to any exposed skin.
Make Simple Swaps with the Hugh and Grace Body Oil
